Throughout the months of June & July we shall be celebrating the centuries old Tuna fishing season by preparing a wonderful variety of dishes based on the delicious meat of this magnificent fish. Tuna will be grilled and stewed, served raw and smoked, rolled and stuffed and used with pasta and salads, with different dishes offered each week.
Tuna has swum the Mediterrean for millenia. It has been celebrated and recorded for its flavourful flesh since the time of Magna Graecia. Until 1961 it was caught with the tunnara method in Mellieha Bay. In recent years numbers have dwindled severely due to industrial overfishing. Newly introduced regulations have curbed this practise and now our fishermen can resort to traditional methods and once again bring the Tonn back to our fishing villages on their colourful Luzzu.
